Seven Things I like About David Villa…

1. He’s the first football player that I saw that made a goal. (okay he’s really not the first since I saw their game against Switzerland wherein they lost, but I can’t really remember the name of the player who made the goal, so it’s useless :D). And his goals were quite memorable since they were both from the 2010 World Cup. Those goals (2 goals against Honduras) propelled my interest in football.

2.
He’s a fighter. When he was younger, he sustained a serious injury that nearly jeopardized his dream of becoming a football player. He suffered a fractured femur in his right leg. But instead of giving up, he trained with his father after having a complete recovery. They both worked hard to strengthen his left leg. And it resulted to him becoming an ambidextrous. Just last year, he broke his tibia and it was later revealed that he nearly lost his leg because of the injury. But being a fighter he is, he didn't gave up and worked towards his complete recovery and make important goals upon his return for his club despite having limited playing time.

3. He admits his mistakes. Okay, he got into fights with his fellow football players, but he admitted that he was never proud of those moments. Getting into some heated discussions for me is quite natural specially if you are in a very important game and you want to help your team win.

4.  He knows when to seize the moment. He has proven time and time again that he is one of the best in the world.  He is Spain’s leading top scorer with 53 and he has helped his country win the 2010 World Cup. Be it in the starting eleven or coming from the bench, he will do everything just to help his club won, nailing a goal or just passing the ball, it doesn't really matter as long as he can help.

5.  He helps and gives. His “The V Official Campus” is where he spends some time to teach and train kids about football. This is just one of the many events he attends or participates for a good cause. He is also great with fans. He often holds contests wherein fans can win signed merchandise from him.

6. He’s gentleman. Despite having limited playing time or having a discussion with his teammate (Leo Messi) I have never once heard or read an article where he badmouthed their manager, his club or his teammate unlike others.

7. And lastly, we were born on the same day, December 03!  So Feliz cumpleaños a los dos! (I hope I got it right) :D
